Resources to continue pride at home

The Trevor Project is a fantastic resource to explore topics, get mental health support, reach a counselor, and so much more.

The Gender Unicorn: a resource

Find your local Pride groups - nothing beats in person support, if that’s accessible. Pride is year round - find those that can support this mission beyond the month of June. (We’re here for anyone, anytime if you ever need us - hello@elementsacademy.org)

How to be an ally - It’s important to realize and recognize that our fellow humans are in danger. Folks in the LGBTQ community need allies to step up and stand up - LOUDLY - protect human rights, and save them from the scary legislation

As usual, media tends to be a great place to infuse education, knowledge, and understanding.

Here are some books we love:

FOR CHILDREN

  • Neither by Airlie Anderson

  • Love Makes a Family by Sophie Beer

  • Phoenix Goes to School by Phoenix Finch

  • Rainbow, A First Book of Pride by Michael Genhart

  • They, She, He, Me, Free to be by Maya and Matthew

  • Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall

  • My Princess Boy by Cheryl Kilodavis

  • Julian is a Mermaid by Jessica Love

FOR YOUNG ADULTS

  • Burn the Page by Danica Roem

  • Right Where I left you

  • George by Alex Gino

  • Dunkin and Lucy

  • Being Jazz by Jazz Jennings

FOR ADULTS

  • Leaving Isn’t the Hardest Thing by Lauren Hough

  • Tomorrow Will be Different by Sarah McBride

  • The Stonewall Reader

  • Stonewall by Martin Duberman

  • Rainbow Milk by Paul Mendez

*A note about books (and any media) - it’s important (in our opinion) to have a mix of BOTH explicitly instructive books on LGBTQ (history, non fiction, memoirs, etc) AND implicitly queer books (characters that are representative, characters with all types of families, books written by and for LGBTQ folks)
